Portland State University Named Hyland’s Higher Education Peer-to-Peer Award Winner
Award recognizes the most innovative OnBase by Hyland solutions driving departmental efficiencies and streamlining processes across campus
Recognizing the advanced use of OnBase by Hyland across campus, Portland State University was recently named Hyland’s 2017 Higher Education Peer-to-Peer Award winner at CommunityLIVE, the premier information management conference, in Las Vegas. PSU has dramatically expanded OnBase from an initial document archiving system used only by the largest central administrative groups to enterprise-wide solutions that affect every business unit at the university.
PSU has implemented OnBase solutions and workflow functionality within campus departments including accounting, admissions, financial aid, human resources, institutional research and planning, and information technology. More are added on a regular basis, and many departments have also pursued training so their functional staff can build additional solutions, freeing up time and resources for central IT.
Additionally, OnBase provides annual cost savings for PSU. For example, the undergraduate admissions department deployed a system built by Hyland Professional Services to manage workflow processes for incoming student applications. The OnBase solution works in tandem with Banner by Ellucian and is estimated to save $50,000 a year in printing and mailing expenditures alone.
“PSU's success with OnBase is the perfect example of our higher ed customer innovations. Hyland provides the tools, and they create business solutions supported by our configurable platform that address a wide array of challenges across campus,” said Dave Vegh, director, higher education practice at Hyland. “We are continuing to expand ways for our customers to share these solutions with each other that will, in turn, continue strengthening our higher education partnerships.”
OnBase also serves as a centralized information management strategy for several individual colleges, and academic and administrative departments at PSU, from storing faculty evaluations in the English department to building plans for Capital Projects and Construction department to make available to contractors.
The annual Peer-to-Peer Award winner is chosen by members of the Higher Education Vertical OnBase Group of User Experts (VOGUE), which is comprised of higher education OnBase users to share technology best practices, lessons learned, valuable solutions and opportunities to grow. The Higher Education VOGUE selected Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Claremont University Consortium as runners up for the Higher Education Peer-to-Peer Award. All nominees presented their winning solutions to higher education attendees at this year’s CommunityLIVE.
“The OnBase solutions implemented by PSU are worthy of this peer-selected award, but they are also notable to other institutions as successful models of cost savings and demonstrated enterprise-wide efficiencies,” said Diane Oad, Hyland Higher Education VOGUE Board president and senior project analyst at Syracuse University. “We in higher ed, as in other industries, must be creative, forward-thinking and resourceful, and PSU has proven to be a pioneer in this digitally transformative time.”
