Hyland Healthcare Experts to Present at 2020 HIMSS Global Health Conference

Session for C-suite and senior IT professionals defines an effective, integrated governance program for the entire healthcare organization

Experts from Hyland Healthcare, a leading provider of connected healthcare solutions for organizations across the globe, have been selected to present an education session at the 2020 HIMSS Global Health Conference. In a session titled, “Governance for Decision-Making: Who's on First?,” presenters will outline how an organization-wide IT governance strategy ensures the organizational vision, guiding principles and top strategies are in alignment, facilitating better organizational performance, communication and compliance.

Governance is a critical topic in today’s healthcare environment because the industry operates with a complex array of applications that bring together the vital information to care for patients, and also produce output to memorialize that care. The creation of documentation can have unintended consequences when decisions are not in lock-step with current practices and organization policies.

For example, when committee charters are developed, they are often outlined with a single purpose, but the session outlines how a governance structure should have avenues to and from various channels, depending on issues that arise during committee discussion. Integrating specific committee charters into a comprehensive IT governance strategy creates alignment with higher level senior personas across the organization, as well as key operating strategies and plans.

"Our goal in this session is to demonstrate how effective clinical and non-clinical governance is a critical extension to an organization’s vision and strategy,” said Phil Wasson, FACHE and Hyland Healthcare industry manager. “With an active governance program in place, healthcare organizations have a set of principles that drive effective, transparent communication and clear decision processes that positively impact every department.”

This presentation, Session #264, will focus on the integration and consequences when governance fails to integrate vertically across the healthcare organization. It will be led by Phil Wasson and Betty Dunagan, RHIA, Hyland Healthcare customer advisor. It will be held Thurs., March 12 from 1 to 2 p.m. in W308A at the Orange County Convention Center.
